Pantone’s Colors of the Year? We’re not so sure.

2020 has been anything but typical, so it’s no surprise Pantone, the company that sets color standards, did something unlike ever before -- they chose two colors of the year. Their picks? Ultimate Gray, a cool gray, and Illuminating, a bright yellow. “Hello, ten years ago!” James Décor interior designer Megan Turner announced as she discovered Pantone’s picks. “I love yellow and I love gray, but together? We’ve been down that road.” Apparently, every industry, from fashion design to interior design, will find ways to incorporate these colors in their products this year and even though we’re less than thrilled about their picks, we do love a challenge, so if you want to keep up with the times, here’s how we would add these controversial colors to your home.

Throw Pillows and Blankets

If you want the trend without a big commitment, this is your best option. Mix and match the pillows. Choose a throw with a pattern to give your chair or sofa a whole new look. Use these in your bedroom or living room. It’ll be a simple fix to swap these out with next year’s color or colors when the time comes.

Accents

Accents may require a little more commitment since they are typically more of an investment, but they can be swapped out just as easily. This is your chance to get creative with the trending colors. Sculptures, accent bowls and wall art are all fair game to incorporate the colors.

Furniture

If you’re ready for a full commitment to the colors and don’t want them going anywhere once the year ends, go all out with furniture. Yellow and gray pair especially well with modern spaces. A yellow accent chair is a way to add some cheer to any space. Since gray is more neutral, furniture in this color could transcend the ever-changing trends and work in different types of spaces.
