Try a Classic Tall Bar Cabinet

If you’re the kind of person that likes a fully stocked bar within reach, then a tall bar cabinet could be just what the doctor ordered. With so many different styles, and different shelving configurations, you’re sure to find something that will fit the bill. The nice thing about these cabinets is that there’s no bending over to dig through the lower shelves. Everything is perfectly within reach, plus everything stays neat and tidy, tucked away in the cabinet.

Choose a Small Bar Cabinet

Not ready to commit to a full spot for your bar, but still want a well stocked station? This option gives you the best of two words: you can hide away a large collection of bottles and glassware and you can still use the top of the cabinet for decor. You also get to have artwork or shelving hung above your cabinet or it can slide neatly under a window. There’s lots of options to choose from, some have wine racks, others have rotating shelves. Even a basic cabinet with shelves can be converted into the perfect cabinet as long as the shelves are adjustable!

For a Mobile Option, Try a Bar cart

If you like to entertain then a bar cart is a must! You can move it outdoors for a pool or garden party or indoors in any room of the house! Bar carts are so versatile and fun to style. If you’re worried about it looking cluttered then keep it simple on for the everyday and then style it up with already mixed cocktails, bottles of wine, ice and glasses when company is coming over. The thing we love about bar carts is they can be turned into a candy cart for a birthday party or even a coffee cart for brunch. The possibilities are endless!

Convert the Top of a Piece into a Bar Display

Maybe you love a good nightcap or Bloody Mary from time to time, but don’t need daily access to a fully stocked bar. Then create a small area into a self serving bar using a classic tray. All you need is a few glasses, a decanter and a few bar accessories. This is a wonderful way to prepare for company without sacrificing much space for a big bar.

Convert a Shelf or Etagere into a Bar

Similar to a bar cart, a shelf bar can be styled in several ways and can add purpose to your shelf styling. Avoid making things look cluttered by using glass or acrylic shelves and glassware. Only put out your prettiest bottles and use decanters for wine and liqueurs. Mix in some decor elements, and add some fresh flowers for a pretty pop of color.

Think about your needs and wants…

Choose One:

  1. “I know what styles I like, and have inspiration images of what I want, but no one carries it.”

2.

“I need something to fit in an awkward space that looks amazing, nothing I find will work!”

3.

“I need to design a piece that will match an already designed space. I’ve looked and nothing looks good.”

If you picked 1…

You’re someone who knows what they want and that’s fabulous! You will probably want to design every detail of your piece, like finishes, feet, hardware, nail trim, and fabrics to name just a few. If you haven’t thought about details like that then give them some thought and look for more inspiration images from magazines or pinterest. Then give us a call and let us know you are ready to design your own piece. It could be a sofa, chair, bench, or sectional, or it could even be things like a table! You will be asked to share those images with your interior designer prior to meeting if possible. This gives us time to pull the absolute best custom programs for you to choose from. Once your designer has pulled their ideas together, you will both sit down for a more formal meeting and start designing your custom piece! Your designer will make it so easy and can bring ideas to the table that may have not even thought of. All you will have to do is get creative.

If you picked 2…

This is tough, but thankfully you can create just the right piece that will fit perfectly in your space by going custom. The very first thing you need to do is take pictures and get the measurements of your space. You can call James Décor and one of our interior designers can come out and do this for you or you can do it yourself pretty easily. This is a super important part of creating a custom piece that fits perfectly and functions well in the space. A designer can help you reimagine the space and can get a feel for the style your looking for with just a quick phone call or even through email. To make the real magic happen you will need to sit down with your designer and the different custom programs they’ve pulled for you to begin the design process. So, if you’re looking for a sectional that fits in your narrow den for example, you not only can make that happen, but you can pick the sectional’s depth, the type of back, the shape of the seating, how many seats, the style of arms and the base, plus the fabric. Maybe you want a contrasting ottoman? You can design that too!

If you picked 3…

Sounds like you’ll know the perfect piece for your space when you see it, and you just have’nt seen it! We get it! Creating something custom that you love is going to be way better than settling for something you don’t love that just kind of works. In this situation it would be best for a designer to come out and see your space. This will help them get a better idea of the room and what brands will offer something that will be well suited for you. Your designer will pay careful attention to the lines, finishes, and fabrics already in the space and can pull fabric samples from our memo library when you meet to discuss your custom furniture options. It’s important to stay open minded during this process because your designer may bring some ideas to the table that you hadn’t considered before! By working closely with an expert you will be able create something that’s not only personal to you but is also a perfect fit in your space.

Custom furniture FAQ

  1. Many custom programs offer premium cushion upgrades for added comfort.

  2. Your custom piece is being made to order so expect to wait up to 12 weeks for it to arrive. But don’t worry, it will be worth the wait!

  3. There are several custom programs that can be made and shipped faster, because they are part of a quick ship custom program. Ask your designer about these programs!

  4. Some programs allow you to use any fabric you want while others are more limited.

  5. There are lots of custom programs to choose from, and there is a perfect one waiting for you. Your designer will help you find just the right option.

  6. The most custom options are available in upholstered items, however many brands are offering custom/build-your-own programs for case goods as well (tables, dressers etc.).

Pantone’s Colors of the Year? We’re not so sure.

Screen Shot 2020-12-28 at 1.56.53 PM.png

2020 has been anything but typical, so it’s no surprise Pantone, the company that sets color standards, did something unlike ever before -- they chose two colors of the year. Their picks? Ultimate Gray, a cool gray, and Illuminating, a bright yellow. “Hello, ten years ago!” James Décor interior designer Megan Turner announced as she discovered Pantone’s picks. “I love yellow and I love gray, but together? We’ve been down that road.” Apparently, every industry, from fashion design to interior design, will find ways to incorporate these colors in their products this year and even though we’re less than thrilled about their picks, we do love a challenge, so if you want to keep up with the times, here’s how we would add these controversial colors to your home.

Throw Pillows and Blankets

If you want the trend without a big commitment, this is your best option. Mix and match the pillows. Choose a throw with a pattern to give your chair or sofa a whole new look. Use these in your bedroom or living room. It’ll be a simple fix to swap these out with next year’s color or colors when the time comes.

Taylor King

Accents

Accents may require a little more commitment since they are typically more of an investment, but they can be swapped out just as easily. This is your chance to get creative with the trending colors. Sculptures, accent bowls and wall art are all fair game to incorporate the colors.

Furniture

If you’re ready for a full commitment to the colors and don’t want them going anywhere once the year ends, go all out with furniture. Yellow and gray pair especially well with modern spaces. A yellow accent chair is a way to add some cheer to any space. Since gray is more neutral, furniture in this color could transcend the ever-changing trends and work in different types of spaces.

The 2021 Design Trends We Love

James Décor designers break down all the home trends they’ll be embracing in 2021.

Living Room by Caracole (Available for special order)

Geometric Sensibility

This is one of the biggest trends in high-end interior design and it’s all about modern living. Tables, chairs, and consoles are inspired by timeless art and architecture and even accessories are being created with unique shapes and brutalist undertones. Pairing these pieces with comfy modular sofas and cozy texture, create spaces with sophistication and attitude.

Casual Glam

Think gorgeous earth tones, luxurious texture, and mixed materials for this trend. Casual glam is the best of both worlds. It’s comfortable and inviting, but also completely classic. We love mixing natural elements like agate, marble, and alabaster, with linens and light wood tones. Soft color palettes work will with this trend, but designers are also adding richer earth tones into it as well. The idea is to avoid harsh contrast and use a more cohesive color palette.

Stylish Mixing

This is the trend for those who love an eclectic mix of style and also love fashion, music, and art. This look is a mix of different styles that show off the homeowner’s personality but also mimic cultural events. Color is used in sophisticated ways, and a mix of modern, traditional, antiques, and texture come together to create an edgy aesthetic. Texture is played up with crocodile wallpaper, tortoise accessories, and shagreen, and art is a centerpiece in many areas of the home.

Colorful Interiors

It might be that after a year of staying at home and not going out, many homeowners are ready to party! With people itching to entertain in 2021, they need conversation pieces that stand out in their home. A beautiful wine colored sofa, a striking floral wallpaper, or even a colorful light fixture could be just the ticket. Grandmillenials are gravitating to traditional and colorful interiors and this won’t be stopping anytime soon. These traditionalists are all about classic bright color like blues and green.

4 Ways to Make Your Home Instantly Cozier

Hello modern rustic! Get inspired by the world’s chicest ski lodges & whimsical wintry getaways.

SkiLodge.jpg

Sprinkle in Fur Details

Ok, so maybe we aren’t reinventing the wheel with this one, but one thing rings true this year…faux fur is a designer favorite. We recommend adding fur pillows and throws to you sofas and beds for added coziness. But don’t stop there! Pull a sheepskin bench up to you dining table and cover patio chairs around the fire pit with small sheepskin rugs, for a look that screams ski lodge chic.

Add in Rustic Touches

Rustic touches can come in the form of a cowhide chair or a gorgeous antler chandelier. If that’s too rustic for you, bring in burlwood accents (it’s a very popular trend right now.) Pull out your taxidermy (it is the Ozarks after all), or opt for a ceramic version if hunting isn’t your thing. We love swapping artwork out for more rustic imagery during the winter too!

Use Velvet, Velvet, Velvet and More Velvet

Velvet is an amazing way to amp up the cozy level in your space. Its luxurious, but also comfy, soft and adds lots of visual texture. Work in velvet bedding, pillows, furniture pieces and drapery. Switching out lightweight drapery for rich velvet ones can make a huge difference in the how inviting your space is. We like using velvet in rich colors for added luxury.
